The Saxophone is a member of the woodwind family, is played with a reed like a Clarinet, and is typically made of brass. The Saxophone was invented in 1846 by Adolphe Sax, a Belgian instrument maker who wanted an instrument that would fill the gap between woodwinds and brass.
The Saxophone is most closely associated today with Jazz and Classical music. With a distinct sound, the Saxophone adds tremendous life and vivacity to any musical performance. The four Saxophones most well known are Soprano, Alto, Baritone and Bass.
If your son or daughter is in school band, Saxophone lessons can help give them the confidence needed to thrive and feel comfortable in class. Students who have private lessons outside of band class tend to do a lot better in the band than those who don’t. First chair positions are reserved for exceptional students, and those are almost always the students who have private lessons as well as band class.
Saxophone lessons will include music theory, ear training, proper posture and embouchure as well as group dynamics, orchestral Saxophone, quartet and Jazz groups, and solo Saxophone skills.
