Name: Alan
Music Instrument(s) Taught: Banjo, Bass, Guitar, Mandolin, Ukulele
Location: SE Portland (125th and Division)

I began taking guitar lessons in California’s Bay Area at the age of 8.  By age 11, I was involved with a touring band, performing all around San Francisco and the surrounding counties.  I simply fell in love with playing and performing music.  As I grew older, I played in a number of different bands ranging from Bluegrass to Classical to Metal.  In High School, my parents allowed me to teach lessons in our home.  It was at this stage that I began to develop my lifelong love of teaching, all the while, I continued to take lessons and further my knowledge of musical concepts.

After High School, I moved to Oregon to study music at Southern Oregon University and Portland State University before moving back to California to graduate from the California Institute of Integral Studies.  From there, I moved to the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mt. range and taught music at the High School level.  During that time I performed regularly at weddings, wineries and restaurants.  I began to move heavily into roots music, focusing on other instruments such as Banjo, Dobro and Mandolin.  I truly love all forms of music and believe all styles generate good times!

I currently reside in Portland and perform weekly with my band of 15 years.  My teaching career has spanned 20 years and has brought me the joy of meeting amazing people from all walks of life and instructing most all musical styles and ability levels.  I continue to study, explore and instruct several styles on several instruments in my relaxed, professional, commercial studio in SE Portland and in the homes of my students.  I look forward to helping you along your own musical journey! I currently teach Guitar, Banjo, Dobro, Mandolin, Bass, and Ukulele to students of all ages!

Alan is currently accepting new students.
