Name: Colin
Music Instrument(s) Taught: Bass, Guitar, Piano
Location: SE Portland (Powell and 82nd)

I’m a native of Los Angeles, and began a life in music at age 8.  My dad was a hobbyist guitar player/singer, but he would occasionally take gigs and play out.  It looked fun, and after a few years of piano lessons, I started teaching myself the songs my dad was playing, so that I could jam with him.  He encouraged me on piano, but also made available his guitars and basses for me to borrow.  I started borrowing them right away, and when he began booking gigs for the two of us, I was hooked.  I found myself playing bass pretty regularly.  It wasn’t my preferred instrument until I realized it was so easy and fun to gigs in bands.

In college and my adult life, I’ve continued to play bass and keyboards in bands regularly, and occasionally guitar.  I’ve played in over 25 bands and projects in Los Angeles, most recently “The Herbert Bail Orchestra.”  I’ve also written my own songs, and occasionally play solo shows.  I hold a Trade Certificate in Luthierie, and for the last 9 years, I’ve made a living as a professional stringed instrument repairman at The Fretted Frog Guitar Shop in Pasadena, CA.  I continue to build stringed instruments, play them, and occasionally sell them.

I remain a humble student of music, and continue to advance and enjoy discovering.

Colin is not currently accepting new students.
