Don is a professional classical and commercial trombonist performing in and around the Portland, OR area.
Originally from Dallas, Texas, Don began playing trombone while in elementary school and has never looked back. While in school, he was taught by the Principal Euphonium of the Dallas Wind Symphony (now the Dallas Winds), Mr. Brian Davis.
He continued playing all through middle and high school, eventually making it to the all-state level in Texas, before joining the ranks of musical greats like John Coltrane, Clark Terry, Johnny Cash, Jimi Hendrix, and Tony Bennett by enlisting in the military. Don was a soldier and trombone player for 4 years in the U.S. Army. In his last two years in San Antonio, Texas, he was priviledged to be under the tutelage of what is now considered one of New York City’s finest low brass musicians, Mr. Ron Wilkins.
After his service in the military, Don went back to school and completed an undergraduate degree in Music, focusing on Music Business, at The University of Texas at Austin. While at the university, Don studied trombone with Drs. Nathaniel Brickens, Joe Brown, and Alex Heitlinger. In addition to going to school, he also performed with one of Austin’s premier Latin Jazz and Salsa groups, The Latin Brew, under the direction of 2x Latin Grammy Award nominee, Mr. Felipe Borrero.
When he isn’t teaching or performing, Don and his wife, Nancy, spend time in their south east Portland home with their dog, Milo, and 2 cats, Samantha and Otis. He teaches Trombone, Euphonium and Percussion.
Don is currently not accepting new students.
