Karl is a pianist, composer and music educator residing in Portland, Oregon. He holds a Masters of Music in composition from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and a Bachelors in Music from Lewis and Clark College. He studied piano with Jill Timmons and Susan DeWitt Smith, and composition with Michael Johanson and David Conte.
Karl is a classically trained pianist, well versed in the standard repertoire from Bach to Prokofiev. His current work as a performer is centered on playing new music for the instrument. Karl recently premiered solo works for the piano by himself and other emerging composers at the Center for New Music in San Francisco. He loves to bring his lifelong passion for music to his teaching.
Karl offers piano lessons to students of all ages, from young beginners to advanced high school and college students, to adults who wish to take up the instrument again after years away from it. While he seeks to ground his students in a solid foundation of musicianship, Karl also wants his students to know that music can be fun! His goal is to provide his students with the foundations and the training to be the best musicians they can be.
Karl is currently accepting new students.
