She studied classical art songs in high school and won state solo contest at age 17. At Willamette University in Salem, OR, Ms Roy studied opera. Melanie then went to Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle and studied jazz voice for three years. Melanie has soloed with symphonies, well known rock artists and continues to sing with jazz greats from the Pacific NW and fronts the Soul/Pop dance band, Big Bad Beat, with spouse Jeff Frankel on drums.
Teaching comes naturally for Melanie as she studied under great vocal coaches for over 20 years and she knows how to explain and demonstrate technique easily to her students. She helps each student relax and emotionally connect with the songs. Melanie is eager to teach students of all skill level and extends her joy of singing to each client.
